How many outfits do you need for 0 to 3 months? ›

Some babies start wearing this size when they're not even a month old. Since your baby will be growing pretty quickly at this stage, it's a good idea not to go overboard. Stick to the two outfits a day rule, making sure you have at least 14 different options to experiment with.

It can be confusing to determine the difference between Newborn and 0-3 month clothes, but typically Newborn sizes cover babies in the 5-8 pound range while the 0-3 month sizes fit 8-12 pound children.

6 stretch suits (all-in-ones) for both day and night, or 4 stretch suits and 2 nightdresses (nighties) for the night – use socks or bootees with the nightie if it's cold. 2 cardigans, wool or cotton rather than nylon, and light rather than heavy – several light layers of clothing are best for keeping your baby warm.

A good rule of thumb is to give your baby 1 extra layer of clothing than what you're wearing. For example, if you're in a t-shirt and jumper, dress them in a vest, sleepsuit and cardigan or jumper. If you feel chilly, your baby probably does too.

We generally include 8-10 onesies for the newborn and early months sizes. We always include at least some long sleeve onesies in our sets for skin protection from the sun. Many new parents like to use kimono bodysuits for the first few weeks.

The longest a baby usually wears newborn is about 1-2 weeks after their due date (even if born early- by the due date they are usually in newborn size). Therefore, for a new baby gift, I would go with a 3M (0-3M) or 6M (3-6M) size to get a little longer wear.

Some babies grow fast and transition from new born clothing to 0-3 months baby clothing in a very short period of time and some others take more time to achieve this milestone. Usually 4–6 weeks old. Some babies obviously take their time over this and some are in 0–3 m from day 1.

In reality, a baby's needs (at least at first) are relatively simple: milk, a safe place to sleep, nappies, clothes and, of course, love. Let's look at these basic needs in more detail.

From the beginning to help your baby get used to a day-night routine, you should always change their clothes before bedtime. If changing into their sleepsuit and sleeping bag is accompanied by a good-night ritual, your baby will associate this with bedtime.

1. Avoid buttons, bows, and ties: Buttons, small bows, and other decorative items on the baby's clothes could cause choking. These small items put on baby clothes can come off, and since babies love putting everything in their mouths, it could result in a catastrophe.

While newborns don't actually require a lot of gear in their first weeks of life, some newborn clothing essentials and other items can make your life easier. Diapers, wipes, burp cloths, bottles, and blankets are just a few things you'll likely need a lot of in those early weeks.

The idea behind the third piece rule is that for an outfit to go from good to great, it needs three key elements. Your top and bottom (pants or skirt) are your first and second elements. The third piece is that extra something that finishes off the whole look.

In the first 3 months your baby will be attracted by faces, bright lights and colours, stripes, dots and patterns, but not understand what they're seeing. They'll first recognise that eyes, nose and mouth make a face. Then your baby will begin to recognise particular faces and other things like their teddy.

Aim for one outfit in newborn size and one 0-3 months. Don't forget hats and/or socks, if weather-appropriate, to keep baby warm.
