Granola Video Transcript

Hi, my name is Kristy and I’m coming to you from the Rada Cutlery kitchen. I’m making a recipe out of one of our popular cookbooks, Unforgettable Recipes, that takes you through a whole century, from the 1900’s to the 1990’s. It highlights what recipes were popular then with facts about what was happening and why certain recipes became popular. Today I’m going to make granola. This is from the 1970’s, and I do actually remember my mom always making homemade granola. It supposedly is healthy, I kind of question that at times because it contains vegetable oil and honey, but it’s really not that bad, it’s still better than buying it from the store. It’s really easy to mix up, so let us get started!

Here I’m going to take 4 cups of the old fashioned rolled oats. We’re going to combine wheat germ, we have a half cup of that. We have a fourth cup of sesame seeds. All these are untoasted because we’re going to bake it in the oven. Then we have a half cup of shelled sunflower seeds and a half cup of slivered almonds. And then we have a fourth cup of flaked coconut. We’re just going to mix this all together really well. Now in a separate bowl we’re going to mix a half cup of honey. This was from one of our local honey bee farms. Then a half cup of vegetable oil. We’re just going to stir that together.

Now we’re going to pour this over our oat mixture. Then we’re going to mix it to thoroughly coat it.
Now we have our oven preheated to 300 degrees. We’re going to put it on a baking sheet that we lined with foil. Then we’re going to bake this in the 300 degree oven for 25 to 30 minutes, or until golden brown. I made a little ledge here because you’ll want to go in and stir it a couple times while it’s baking. And then once it’s done let it cool and store it in an airtight container. It’s going to make about 7 cups.

That’s one of the easy recipes in our book Unforgettable. These are available as a fundraiser where your group can make a 40% profit. Check us out at www.radacutlery.com.
