  • all-purpose flour – I use organic all-purpose flour.
  • extra virgin olive oil – I use organic.
  • grated parmesan cheese – The powdery stuff.
  • unsalted butter – melted
  • minced garlic
  • garlic powder
  • dried basil

How to make Parmesan Garlic Bread in a Bread Machine:

First, add the water, olive oil, melted butter and minced garlic to the bread pan. I microwaved the butter in a small microwave-safe bowl for 30 seconds. Then, add all of the dry ingredients, except for the yeast, to the bread pan. Finally, make a small depression into the flour with your finger and add the dry yeast to the depression. Make sure you do not allow the yeast to come in contact with any liquids.

Select the basic setting on the bread machine and press start. My bread machine took 3 hours and 45 minutes. I also selected the “light” crust option on my bread machine but I normally select “medium”. The difference was that the top of the loaf was lighter and softer. You can choose based on your personal crust preference.

Once the bread is finished, allow it to cool for 10 minutes. You have bakery-worthy garlic bread without hardly any effort. Enjoy!

FAQs

What is the difference between garlic bread and toast? ›

Typically, garlic bread is made with breads that have a hard crust (e.g. French bread, ciabatta, baguette). Texas toast is made by spreading butter on both sides of a slide of bread and broiling or grilling it until it is light brown – sometimes garlic is added to the butter as well.

Does garlic powder affect bread rise? ›

One teaspoon of garlic powder was added to my regular recipe. The rise was diminished and the dough was drier.

How to cook packaged garlic bread? ›

Generally, it is recommended to preheat the oven to around 350°F (175°C) and bake the bread for 10-15 minutes, or until it is golden brown and crispy.

Is toast bread healthier than regular bread? ›

Toasting bread has minimal influence on its nutritional content, but it does trigger chemical changes that increase the shelf life of the bread. Toasting bread decreases calorie count somewhat by reducing the fat content of the bread, although this reduction is not considerable.

Is it better to toast or bake bread? ›

The difference is in digestibility. Nutritional site mindbodygreen.com says toasting breaks down the complex carbohydrate starch as the bread's water level decreases, making it easier to digest. It takes longer for our bodies to break down complex carbs.

What kills yeast in bread? ›

Too Hot to Survive

Regardless of the type of yeast you use, if your water reaches temperatures of 120°F or more, the yeast will begin to die off. Once water temps reach 140°F or higher, that is the point where the yeast will be completely killed off.

What happens if you eat too much garlic bread? ›

High Calorie and Fat Content: Garlic bread is often made with ingredients like butter or margarine, which are high in calories and saturated fats. Overconsumption of high-calorie and high-fat foods can contribute to weight gain, elevated cholesterol levels, and an increased risk of heart disease.

How do you make homemade bread rise better? ›

You can also put hot water in a heat-safe dish and place it on the floor of a cold oven (or on a lower shelf). The steam and heat from the water will help the temperature rise just enough that the yeast is active. The steam will also assist in keeping the surface of the dough moist so it will stretch as it rises.

Why does my garlic bread taste bitter? ›

As garlic burns, it will begin to taste bitter (which is a great tip for cooking with garlic in general). So, if your garlic bread is tasting on the bitter side it likely is because you're overcooking the bread in the oven. So, the next time around, pop that garlic bread out of the oven sooner instead of later.

How do you moisten garlic bread? ›

Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Sprinkle the bread with a little water, then wrap it in aluminum foil and place it in the oven for about 10-15 minutes. Steam: Boil a pot of water and hold the stale bread over the steam for a few seconds. Be careful not to let it get too wet.

Why do you wrap garlic bread in foil? ›

By baking the bread in foil for the first 10 minutes, you allow the ciabatta to soften, which will give you a pillowy, chewy inside. Wrapping the bread also keeps the garlic from burning. Unwrapping the bread and baking it more adds color and will crisp up the crust for the perfect crunchy outside.

What's the difference between garlic bread and Texas toast? ›

Texas toast is prepared by spreading butter on both sides of the bread and broiling or grilling it until it is a light golden brown. Commonly, garlic is added to the butter, yielding a form of garlic bread. The toast may include cheese on one or both sides, similar to an open-faced grilled cheese sandwich.

Why can't i microwave garlic bread? ›

Not all garlic bread is suitable for microwaving. Softer, buttery slices work best as they don't become tough or chewy. Crusty bread like baguettes might not yield the best results in a microwave.

Is there a difference between garlic bread and Texas toast? ›

If you're a fan of fancy, thick-cut toast, then Texas toast is the perfect slice for you! It has a unique texture compared to regular garlic bread; the crust tends to be soft rather than crispy, while the interior is fluffy, pillowy, and soaked through with butter and garlic flavour.

Is Texas toast just garlic bread? ›

Toast is sliced bread that has been browned by radiant heat. The browning is the result of a Maillard reaction altering the flavor of the bread and making it firmer.
